ICG-13 Will be Held in Xi’an and Preparation Count-Down Starts

From June 18th to 22nd, 2018, a series of meetings of the United Nations International Committee of  Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG), were held in Vienna, Austria, including the 2nd ICG-13 Preparation Meeting as well as the 20th ICG Provider’s Forum. 

 

As the ICG-13 Chair, RAN Chengqi, Director General of China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO), chaired the 2nd ICG-13 Preparation Meeting .Ran extended an invitation to all parties to participate in the ICG-13 Meeting. The ICG-13 Preparation Secretariat introduced the current progress and arrangement work conducted by the hosting country. The participants spoke highly of China's meticulous preparations and expressed their expectations for the successful convening of the ICG-13 Meeting. The preparation meeting marks the count-down of the ICG-13 preparation work starts. 

 

RAN Chengqi, Director General of China Satellite Navigation Office, chaired the 2nd ICG-13 Preliminary Meeting of ICG-13. 

 

Preparation Secretariat of ICG-13 Introduced the Current Progress and Arrangement


LU Xiaochun, Deputy Director of National Time Service Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented a BDS report at the 61st Meeting of UNCOPUOS and co-chaired the 20th ICG Provider’s Forum with Japan. A BDS presentation was given at the forum to introduce the service types, characteristics of applications and the concept of global benefits of BDS. Other core system providers responded positively and proposed to invite representatives of related international organizations to join in ICG-13 in order to promote services of satellite navigation systems to enter these organizations. 

 

Lu Xiaochun, Deputy Director of National Time Service Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NTS), gave a report about China Beidou on the 61st Meeting of UNCOPUOS. 

 

MENG Yinan, Engineer of China Satellite Navigation Engineering Center, gave a technical report on the 20th ICG Provider’s Forum. 


Moreover, ZHAN Xingqun, Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University China (SJTU), co-chaired the session meetings of Performance, New Service and Ability Improvement Service Working Group of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) of ICG European representations. SHEN Jun, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Center of  CSNO, as the co-chair of Application Sub Working Group, hosted discussions of application topics 

 

Chinese experts, includingCHANG Xinuo, Research Associate of China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), ZONG Qiugang, Professor of Peking University, YUAN Yunbin, Researcher of Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences,. presented research results and suggestions on topics like space service domain and space weather. 

 

China and US co-chaired the Interoperability Sub Working Group Meeting and a Timing Seminar. Discussion surrounded the topics on space debris, advertising method of time difference among systems, and so on. Chinese experts also participated in Compatibility Sub Working Group Meeting and gave suggestions on frequency spectrum protection and interference monitoring. 

 

YUAN Haibo, Researcher of NTSC, rand GUANG Wei, Research Associate of NTSC, gave technical reports on the Timing Seminar. 

 

BDS will provide services for the "Belt and Road" countries and regions before the end of 2018, and for the whole world by 2020. Currently, BDS has built cooperation with various suppliers as well as "Belt and Road" countries and regions in satellite navigation field. BDS will continually focus on serving the world and benefiting mankind while fulfill the Community of Common Destiny concept advocated by the UNISPACE+50.
